Most of us have already been told these rules as we were growing up. Always be prepared for an emergency! Sometimes emergencies hit when you least expect or no forewarning can be given. Gathering up a small stash of non-perishable items, lights, batteries, candles, and water can only help all of us in the long run. Most of us use these items on a regular basis so alternating them out to make sure expiration dates stay within the parameters is also ensuring you get the most out of your supply.
Have plenty of light. Have an emergency light with candles or lights that require batteries or solar power.
Have matches or lighter to light the candles.
Have a supply of bottled water. Water is vital to human survival.Â
Non perishable foods should be readily available.
Blankets just in case an emergency hits in cold weather. At my house you can never have enough blankets.
Keep your cell phones charged up especially if a weather alert is activated. You never know when you will need it in case of an emergency. You never know when something will happen and that is usually the time your battery is in the red..
Keep you refrigerator door shut as much as possible, you never know how long the power will be out and the longer it is closed, the longer the food is preserved,
Make sure your car is full of gas in case you need to travel somewhere. If you have a battery operated car, make sure your battery is fully charged.
Having some board games for younger children may not be a bad idea. With technology today, kids get bored fast and what better way of pure simple entertainment.
